Description

Door Bell Plate for High-End Recessed Smart Doorbell Control that Juts Into Wall Box

Update to a new smart doorbell by replacing NuTone intercom speakers or other older door chimes that buzz or ring. Elite video doorbells add safety and convenience and are a welcome upgrade for vintage door speakers and ringers because you can use your smart phone to monitor activity by your door. (This specialty cover is NOT designed for standard flush-mount doorbell units - be sure to look at all of our photos.) This customized wall plate is 6.38" high by 4.5" wide and features a large center opening for installing bulky units that set back into a standard wall box. Wall plate installation screw holes are spaced 4-1/2" apart when measured from center to center. The screw holes for mounting video doorbells are spaced 3-9/32" apart (standard box mounting).

Q & A

Q. Can I use this with a basic Ring Pro or other surface-mounted smart doorbell?
A. Just off the shelf, no. This cover is designed for a high-end video doorbell, such as some models of the Ring Doorbell Elite, that requires installation inside an electrical box. These advanced smart doorbells typically cost upwards of $450. These bulky units partially recess into the electrical box and partially sit on top of the cover (half in/half out). Note that their covers might overhang the plate a little bit depending on the model. Standard camera doorbells need a flat surface (instead of a hole) to drill for attaching the mounting bracket .

Q. How can I tell if I have the basic style of door bell?
A. If your new camera doorbell is flat on the back, if it has a separate mounting bracket that must be screwed into the wall (or cover), and if it costs less than $400, then you probably have a standard version.

Q. If I want to mount a Ring Pro behind this cover, what would be required?
A. If you want a DIY project and are handy, you can create a metal subplate for holding your Ring Pro in place behind the cover opening. You will have to determine the depth of the subplate. Note that the opening on this cover (when used without the center ring) is close in size to a Ring Pro, but not an exact match. Models change, so be sure to measure your version to see if it will work for your application.

Q. Do I have to measure my screw spacing?
A. Yes. There are several popular screw spacings (4", 4.5", 5.25" 6.58") on vintage models (NuTone, TekTone, M&S, etc.), so it is important to check distances. Be sure to measure from CENTER to CENTER on the screw holes.

    Fixed a need

I had been looking for something like this for a while. I even tried to make one myself. For those trying to replace an aging intercom system with a Ring, this plate is perfect to make it look clean.
