Description

Replacement white low voltage light switch with on and off buttons for the low voltage lighting systems common in homes built in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

OBSOLETE AS OF 1/2022 - SEE GE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACEMENT OPTIONS for current alternatives. Old GE switches have been OUT OF STOCK everywhere since early 2021.

These unlighted devices were the updated versions of original 25V GE RFS3, RFS6, and RFS9 models of low volt lighting switches. Note that these newer GE low voltage light switches are a bit larger than the original ones and protrude farther from the wall as well.

Q & A

Q. Are these GE switches still available?
No. GE stopped making ALL RS23X switches in 2020 and ran out in 2021. The plan to restart production again in 2022 was abruptly ended with the switches declared obsolete. Fortunately, Kyle Switch Plate has several alternative switch options that are compatible with GE systems. Please see GE low voltage replacement switches.

Q. My vintage GE rocker switches are mounted in a steel bracket. Should I buy a new strap for these?
A. No, GE's RS23X light switches did not require a mounting strap (unless using with Bracket Mount Wall Plates). They simply snapped right into the front of the New Style Switch Plates thereby eliminating the need for a bracket altogether.

Q. Can I use these RS23X series switches with my old yoke?
A. No. If you have any of the RS23X series switches which were discontinued in 2021, do not attempt to insert them into an older strap or yoke. These recently discontinued switches were slightly bigger than the old light switches and likely would be damaged - the housing can crack and the buttons can get stuck because it is too tight a fit for them to function properly.

Q. Can I buy GE 3-way low voltage switches?
A. Good news! Any GE replacement switch options can be used as 3 way low voltage switches, too. All you have to do is wire them in parallel to create 3 way switches, 4 way switches, etc. - as many as you want. That way, any switch you click will turn the lights on or off.

Q. How can I tell which button is on and which is off?
A. The old RS23X switches (RS232, RS237, RS239) were marked on the side of the housing to indicate which button is on (red) and which is off (black). As long as you installed the switches the same direction on your covers you will know which is which: the left button is on and the right is off, for example, or the top button is on and the bottom is off.

    Great update to old house

Our son bought a 50's house and the low voltage wiring was a little scary. Thankfully we found Kyle. We've gone through and replaced all the switches and plates. What a change! The switches are clean and new and work smoothly.

    GE Low Voltage Switches

Great replacement for the existing system. Easy installation, I'm a bit particular in my installs and when the space you're given gets a little tight in the wall its a challenge to get the snap in switches to sit flat and neat inside the wall plate. Could be a little stronger design in the snap in feature of the the switch. But other then that great product!

    Fantastic upgrade

Got this and the new style GE switch plate cover. Replaced some 1960s Bryant rocker style switches. These wired up easy, and look so much cleaner. Sleek and modern. I have several more Bryant switches in the house and I cant wait to swap them all out for these new GE switches.
