Cover up unused or empty switch plate locations with a blank cover. It is much easier and quicker than having to patch up the wall, and it allows you the option of being able to use the electrical location in the future. All of our cover plates for empty wall boxes come with standard size 1/2" screws.
The included screws are the correct length for closing an electrical box that sits flush (or very close to flush) with the wall surface.
If your electrical box sits back into the wall, you will need to purchase longer screws in order to install the cover.
Note that longer screws are only available in limited finishes.
Make sure you have no more than about 1/4" of space between the surface of the wall or tile (that the plate sits on) and the part of the electrical box where the plate screws in.
Because of the plate's edge bevel, the included 1/2" screws only extend 5/16" behind the wall plate.
The half-inch screws are a perfect fit for flush sitting boxes, but boxes sitting back more than .25" will require longer screws to attach the cover.

You may see something that's close to the configuration you need, but the cutouts are not in the exact order that you need.
For the rare situation in which we don't have the perfect cover plate, use inserts to fill openings. This converts a cutout - such as a toggle or duplex outlet opening - to a blank by filling the opening in a safe & simple way.
Inserts are not always an exact match in finish to a cover plate, but they may be the only solution short of buying a custom switch plate, which is very expensive.

Use blank plates to cover empty electrical boxes.
The standard screw hole spacing on an empty box is 3-9/32" (3.281") center to center.
If your electrical box still has straps mounted in it which block the mounting screw holes (like the box shown here), simply remove the straps so that a standard blank cover plate can be used to cover the box.
